Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments.
Teachers: a. promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness b. engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources c. promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students' conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes d. model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments
1. List all that goes into planning for classroom instruction.Planning for classroom instruction requires many different elements that need to be considered and included.
Instructional plans need to:
- incorporate national, state standards and anchors to ensure that the students are working towards meeting and acheiving the standards
-include differentiated ideas and plans to be sure that I am meeting the needs of all my students regardless of their ability level
-state the overall objectives and main concept of the lesson
- have an anticipatory/opening activity that motivates the students and gains their interest in the upcoming lesson
-include enough detail and information about how to teach the lesson or the components of the lesson so that other teachers could walk in and teach the lesson
- have an assessment/closure activity that accurately measures the students and produces data and information that I can use for future lessons
2. List the types of projects and activities you use with your students. When I plan activities for my students, I try to make sure they are completing a variety of projects. Some of these activities include:
- Creating a plant/flower and labeling the parts of the plant/flower
-Documenting plant change and growth through the use of photographs and digital tools
-Recording writings and classroom stories
- Brainstorming ways to recycle and starting the program/idea within our school and community
- Making birdhouses out of gourds and creating a writing that lists the steps to complete a birdhouse
-Designing fraction creatures/monsters and writing to inform others about the fractional parts of the creatures
-Creating a t-shirt design and describing other classmates using adjectives
2a. Do your planned projects and activities include any of the following: project-based learning, authentic activities, higher order thinking, collaboration, problem-solving, creativity and innovation, and use of digital tools and resources? List all that apply. The projects and activities that I plan and use in my instruction include problem-solving, collaboration, and innovation (brainstorming recycling ideas and initiating the program in the school), creativity (making fraction monsters, t-shirt designs), project-based designs (birdhouse and creating plants/flowers), and digital tools (trackstar, photobucket, yodio). I try to make sure that throughout the year we are using all of these learning styles and continue to grow on these skills. .
3. List at least 3 ways that you can improve or would like to grow with regard to planning.I would like to be able to develop and create more activities in my planning that allow my students to work together collaboratively. I currently have a few activities but I believe the my students would gain so many new skills such as problem solving and social skills if they were given the opportunity to work with one another more often.
I could really improve and expand my lessons by using more digital tools and incorporating more technology into my lessons and how I teach. My students would be able to explore and see so much more than what is pictured in a book in front of them. It would also be great for family members to be able to see what their child is doing and learning about no matter where they are.
Finally I would like to improve my planning by incorporating more higher order thinking into my lessons. I want to be able to stretch my students minds and imagination more and by using different higher order thinking strategies, I think I would be able to achieve that.
4 .List resources that can help you grow in this strategy. Using Blooms Taxonomy will help me to create and prepare more lessons that will include higher order thinking questioning and activities in my lessons. I will be able to use more digital tools in my lessons but referencing the materials and information I have gained from this class and by also contacting our district technology coordinator and referring to the NETS Standards as well. By talking with my peers, administrators, and visiting/shadowing other teachers I will be able to incorporate more collaborative learning into my lessons and planning.
Summary Statement for Strategy 1 Instructional planning is very important and incorporates many different things. It is very important to make sure that when planning lessons for students that they have a purpose and draw them in to the lesson. The lessons need to promote collaboration and encourage creativity and learning and at the end allow students to show and demonstrate all that they have learned. I would like to grow within my instructional planning by including more collaboration, more technology and digital tools, and pay closer attention to using higher ordering questioning and thinking in my lessons. By making the effort to grow in these areas and use them in my planning, I think that my students will be engaged and walk away from the lesson having learned more information.
For step 3 above, write a summary statement. Include this statement on your Action Plan Summary page.
